Sample Roleplay: ...It's been six years since the biggest moment of my career. The night I was finally world champion. It was supposed to put me at the next level. Instead I was attacked and the belt was taken from me. The company closed soon after but I didn't have the last laugh. I thought if I couldn't be the face of one company I would find another. That didn't happen. Nothing happened. The biggest moment of my career was the one that ended it.
It wasn't easy to accept that there would be no more chances. I finally had no choice. Even though it wasn't my terms I was able to go out on top. How many people can say that? After some time I became content with my wrestling career being over. I was still young at thirty-one, relatively healthy, and I had my whole life ahead of me. I was through with wrestling. The funny thing is wrestling wasn't through with me.
I don't know how to explain it, but I had an itch. I'd had it before and it was no easier to figure out why. All I knew was that I had to get back in the ring. My time away from the ring wasn't spent getting fat and I'm still in great shape. In fact the years off have left me feeling better than I had in the years I was competing. I was healthy and I was ready. All I needed was to find someone to give me a chance.
That is when I found Hate City Syndicate, a brand new company looking to get off the ground. The situation isn't perfect, but they are giving me a chance so I figure I might as well do what I can to make them a success. Is the HCS the next big thing in wrestling? I don't know the answer to that. Here is what I can tell you. I've always felt at home in the ring. If that ring is owned by HCS then that makes HCS my home. Hopefully our relationship will be one that is mutually beneficial...
January 10th, 2016 MORNING
Muru lay awake in bed looking at the ceiling in his bedroom unable to sleep. He turns on his side and looks at his alarm clock. In only a few minutes the room with be filled with the buzzing that is wake up call. Before it can sound he turns it off and exits the bed slowly. He looks back to the bed with a smile where an unknown woman sleeps.
Once in the kitchen he makes a small bite to eat. There is no point in eating a big breakfast because in might be not stay in his stomach long. Today starts the first day of his new training regimen. He is only a week away from his debut with Hate Wrestling Syndicate.
When he enters the workout area of the warehouse he calls home he expects to find his training partner waiting for him. Instead the place is emptier than his belly, Muru wishing he had opted for that second bowl of corn flakes.
About ten minutes pass
Muru: You're late...
Ryan: I'm here aren't I? You're lucky I'm doing this. I've given up wrestling and this is a lot earlier than I've been getting up lately.
Muru: I appreciate it believe me. There is no one else I would trust to get me ready. You didn't catch any grief from the wife did you?
Ryan: Some. She seems to think that training with you might get me thinking about wrestling again.
Muru: I figure she would be all for it. Wrestling is how you met after all.
Ryan: She definitely is not. Plus this is just temporary remember? You've been out of the game a long time. I'm going to do what I can to help but remember I'm not a miracle worker.
Muru: If I'm in that bad of shape I might as well give up now. I might not win my first match but I don't want to embarrass myself out there.
Ryan: Your confidence really shows through.
Muru: I'm just being realistic. Don't get me wrong, I want to win. It's just that things have changed since the last time I wrestled.
Ryan: Has it? The way I see it, it's still two men beating the shit out of each other to see who is better.
Muru: You know that there's more to it than that.
Ryan: I do. I just don't want you to give up before you get started.
Muru: I wouldn't do this if I wasn't serious.
Ryan: That's good to hear. So who is the unlucky opponent?
Muru: Some kid by the name of Cross Recoba.
Ryan: Oh. He sounds familiar.
Muru: I doubt you would know him. I think he is fairly new to the business.
Ryan: Enough talk. How about we get started?
Muru: I'm looking forward to it. Thanks again.
Ryan Shane: Don’t thank me yet. You’re not going to like what I have planned for today.
Muru: Bring it...
...I haven't let myself go in my time away from ring but I haven't pushed myself like that in a long time. It was both exhilarating and painful as hell. Most of all, it was necessary. I might not be over the hill but I'm not one of these young guys just starting out in the business. Everything is state of the art nowadays. It's a lot easier than it used to be. I can't slip or I will be passed by.
It's one thing for me to say I'm hungry but I have to go out and prove it. I just hope I can. This kid I'm facing this week, Cross Recoba, I can't look past him no matter how easy I could. He is just a kid, but to him I'm probably just an old man. I'm probably just a stepping stone, the first step in climbing the mountain. I might not be the climber I once was, but I've been to the top. I remember the steps...
January 10th, 2016 AFTERNOON
It was a long morning. Now all Muru wants to do is settle in for a few hours of NFL football. Doesn't he deserve that? Sure he does. As kickoff begins he hears someone coming into the room. He also hears the familiar jingle of a six pack of beer which brings a smile to his face, as it should. His cousin Ryan plops down on the couch next to him and sets the six pack on the table in front of them.
Ryan: You look like you've been hit by a bus.
Muru: It may look like that, but I think you give yourself too much credit. If anything your a small car.
Ryan reaches for one of the beers and pops the top off of one.
Muru: Hang me one of those would you?
Ryan: I would love too, but you're in training so I don't think that's a good idea.
Muru knows he is right, but come on!
Muru: So I guess ordering pizza is out of the question?
Ryan: Oh, we are ordering pizza. I just don't think you need any. You need to work on that.
He points to Muru's stomach as to say it's bigger than it actually is.
Muru: You're killing me.
Ryan: Don't worry. You can get a salad. No dressing. Seriously though good work today.
Muru: Thanks. Things felt good. It wasn't exactly like riding a bike but I think I'm going to be alright. Once I got over the hump of doing everything again.
Ryan: I have to admit I did liked being in the ring again as well. I know it hasn't been that long but there is something about it. It's like a drug.
Muru: I wouldn't go that far, but the high is amazing.
Ryan: That it is.
The two men toast each other. Muru with a bottle of water and Ryan with a beer.
...The salad was underwhelming and along with a small breakfast I'm starving. I forgot all the sacrifices needed to make it in the wrestling business. Especially when it comes to the diet. All kidding aside I want this to work out. That is why I'm going to push myself harder than I have before.
I know Ryan has a lot planned this upcoming week but will it be enough? His help is going to go a long way but I need to do some things on my own. That's why I will train with him during the day and I will train on my own at night. Whatever it takes. I mean it...
January 10th, 2016 EVENING
It is almost midnight and a long day is drawing to an end. Muru is in the workout area of The Warehouse punching at a heavy bag hanging from the ceiling. He is drenched in sweat and his knuckles are red, almost to the point of bleeding. Usually Muru doesn't work out this late, but there is a lot on the line.
With the opening of a new company comes a lot of opportunity. A win could put Muru on the right path in Hate Syndicate Wrestling. A loss? It could put Muru on the wrong side of things. This is the kind of stuff that keeps him awake at night. That is why he is going even further with his training. There can be no excuses.
Muru is so caught up in his workout he doesn’t notice the young blonde who has entered and stands watching him. After a few more minutes of beating on the bag he finally takes a break. He turns around reaching for a half empty bottle of water. That’s when he finally notices her.
Girl: I thought that you worked out this morning?
Muru: I did. I just thought maybe I would have another workout on my own tonight. How did you get in.
Girl: The door was unlocked. I tried knocking but when you didn't answer I let myself in.
Muru rolls his eyes knowing that Ryan must have forgotten to lock up when he left. Next time he will have to do it himself.
Muru: How long have you been here?
Girl: Not long. Which is a good thing. Seeing you like this is a real turn on.
Muru: Yeah, I bet I look really sexy right now.
Girl: Trust me, you do.
He walks over to her stopping for a moment to grab a towel. Muru wipes the sweat from his brow.
Muru: Not that I'm not happy to see you, but what are you doing here?
Girl: Well, I had a lot of fun last night, and I wanted to see you again.
He has to admit he enjoyed last night as well. It made him feel young again.
Muru: I wanted to see you but does your mother know you’re here?
Girl: Does it matter? I'm an adult. I can make my own decisions.
Muru: I know. I would have more to worry about than your mom if you weren't
Girl: So what’s the big deal?
Muru: The big deal is that your mom will kill me if she finds out.
Girl: Don’t worry, I won’t say anything.
Muru: Thanks Melanie.
Melanie: So are you almost done here?
Muru: Yeah just give me a couple of minutes to take a shower.
Melanie: Or I could join you.
How could he refuse? Like I said, it makes him feel young.
...I'm nervous. I have been training all week but that only goes so far. I have to step into the ring for my first match in six years.
Cross Recoba, I don't know much about you. There isn't really anything to go on when it comes to your wrestling career. Here is what I do know. Anyone who chooses to be a part of this business knows it isn't easy. Sure it comes quicker to some than it does others but it's never easy. I know getting ring ready wasn't easy for me. So I wonder how easy it is for a kid like you. Obviously wrestling isn't the only thing on your plate. Especially when I hear you are double dipping and working in two companies at once.
You must have a lot of stamina to pull that off kid. I've done it in my younger years but wouldn't even dream of it now. I have been second guessing myself ever since I signed on with Hate Wrestling Syndicate. I want to be ready but I wonder if I'm just fooling myself. Sometimes I think this business has passed me by and I have no business even thinking of a comeback. If that is the mindset I have than I've already lost.
All I can do is hope that my faith in myself can be restored. Hopefully facing you Cross can put things into perspective. A win could go along way to justifying this comeback. I don't know what your objectives are in wrestling but I'm not going to pretend they are any less important to you than mine are to me. We both have different reasons for stepping into the ring. We both want to win. All I can say is good luck and may the best man win...
