The Crossroads Tavern
The Crossroads is located right beside the many admission stations. A doorway faces the outside for patrons who weren’t there for the park to enter. Samedi plans to be opened year round for any of the locals, even in the park's off-season. The building is a two story version of Samedi's first establishment, The Emporium on Bourbon Street. The Crossroads has red brick running along the outside to give it the appearance of one of the old buildings in the French Quarter. Even the double doors that lead into the place were made from stained heavy oak, and a sign hangs above the front portal that reads: ‘The Crossroads’. Next to that sign a smaller one hangs stating:
‘No: loitering, crack selling, or cat selling. Them's the facts'- Doc. Samedi
Before making it through the door, you can smell the aroma of Sam’s famous gumbo.
Once through the double doors, a customer can easily detect the scent of a fine cigar beneath the smell of gumbo.
The inside is far more spacious than The Emporium, not being restricted by 17th century architecture, and with more modern lighting. As soon as you step in there is a set of stairs to your right that immediately cuts to a sharp left running along the wall. Underneath the steps, and the railing that ran the interior of the room, are antique chairs and love seats, with mahogany tables positioned between them. Along the right side wall is a full length bar, where all manner of liquor and beer on tap are displayed. There are just as many books as there are bottles, and the arrangement seems haphazard and random. A scattering of tables litters the center of the establishment. A stage nook on the back wall where a band is typically set up to play.
When you look upstairs you can see more shelves lined with books, various vials and goblets, masks, and dolls. There also appears to be more antique furniture, and even laboratory equipment that looked like it came straight out of the pages of Frankenstein. A smaller bar rests overhead as well, this one not doling out alcohol, but some of the finest cigars the men had ever seen.
Across from that is yet another bar that would look more at home in an apothecary.Various herbs and vials crowded around the bar vying for space.
Samedi, or one of his assistance, constantly mans each bar. Samedi is always quick with a skeleton grin, and an ear ready to listen to your secrets. A word to the wise though, be careful when making wishes or deals.
Welcome to... The Crossroads.
