An empty sound stage. Darkness. Overwhelming darkness. This is Parts Unknown. The scene is filmed in black and white.
"The world is a large place."
A spotlight cuts through the darkness and focuses on the center of the room.
"There were once me that stood above all others. We were behemoths, giants that overtook the world of professional wrestling. Together we showed the world what true skill and violence were. Then, as time went on and the decades passed, people forgot about us. The behemoths disappeared from the face of professional wrestling. I was left alone as the last true behemoth."
Nirvana walks into the spotlight. His head is covered in a blue and white mask. Upon his body are scars which act as proof of his travels. They are war wounds from his many battles in professional wrestling. An especially nasty scar crosses over his chest. Then we notice his size. Nirvana stands at nearly seven feet tall and appears to weigh as much as a small car. Indeed, Nirvana's words ring true. The Midnight King is a behemoth, possibly the last one of his kind. Nirvana grips his fist and flexes his muscles.
"Many of us traveled the classic carnie circuit. I traveled those beaten roads for years along with Boris, my trained wrestling bear. From there I headed to Mexico and Japan where I honed my abilities as a deathmatch wrestler. Along the lines I gave birth to a family of wrestlers that terrorize professional wrestling in this days and age. Kurt Newman in NJFC. Lisa King in STW. That's just to name a few. Beyond this, I have been a champion. A true to life champion and the last behemoth of a bygone era. I stand along in both skill and tenure."
"My body has endured through barbed wire and fire. This tortured form has been put through panes of glass, stabbed with ice picks and covered in thumbtacks. I still stand. My enemies had sought my demise and yet I STAND. This is one part of being Nirvana, transcending pain and age. To you I am an old man, the father of many children and the carrier of old man swag. In truth I am so much more. I am a dangerous shark trailing you when you least expect it and striking like the savage beast I am."
A smirk crosses the giant's masked face. It's a wicked smirk that resembles the twisted face of a shark. That twisted grin glistens in the single spotlight illuminating the room. Despite his age Nirvana keeps his teeth in pretty good shape. Probably because most of them are fake and the old man hates wasting money on dental surgery.
"I come to PAW as the original carny. Lady Mun will tell you that with a smile. You'll find the lovely lady is an original NurvGirl. I seem to remember her showing up as a teenager to many of the shows I appeared on in STW. Others in PAW might remember me from the old tapes they pirated in the nineties or from my precious tours of wrestling federation under my umbrella. The truth is that I owed the Lady a favor as much as she owed me one. So here I am, PAW. The Midnight King has arrived."
"We in STW have seen the strength of PAW. It has impressed us. Beyond that, PAW is the spiritual successor to many of my old projects. That is not why I'm here, but it's a little background as to my place in PAW history. The truth is that I want to test myself in the closest thing STW has to a sister federation. I come before you not as the STW owner, not as a man of power and influence. No, I come before you as a hardcore behemoth ready to destroy anything put before me. I'm here not only to challenge myself but also to challenge you."
Nirvana takes a look at the camera. His deep brown eyes pierce a hole through us as we watch him. He judges us.
"The enhancement talent has decided thy want to enhance their own careers. This week I fight one of their warriors, James Radford. I don't know the kid. I've never met him and his career is worth about as much as an old car that breaks down on you twice a week. So, about three dollars and fifty cents. Well, he's going to earn that pocket change this week when I put him through absolute hell. You're about to go toe to toe with the master of the midway, the original carney and the only man with enough guts to call out the most powerful political players in this game."
"I have no fear."
The Midnight King traces the large scar on his chest and then lets out a laugh. Pulling his hand away from the scar he opens his fist to reveal another large scar on the palm of his right hand. It looks like railroad tracks. For those that don't know, barbedwire scars often take the shape of railroad like symbols. Obviously Nirvana is no stranger to winning matches however he can.
"Fearless and shatterproof, James. I've has to fight while my flesh was burning so this match is simple work. We step into the ring. You buck up to me. I spend a good thirty minutes punishing you. It's pretty simple, isn't it? Maybe I'll let you survive. Maybe you'll get in a few good hits. Sadly, you won't be standing as the victor when this match is over. Despite all your struggles to be accepted as a true carny, you will be proven a liar. You aren't a carny. You're enhancement talent being sent to slaughter."
"Enhancement talent that will embrace Nirvana."
Nirvana extends his arms and takes a few deep breaths. His heavy chest moves with every breath. We spend a few more moments looking over his scars. Now, in silence, we can appreciate what they symbolize. They symbolize a career of violence and passion for a craft. The spotlight shuts off suddenly. The last thing we hear before the feed cuts is that wicked laughter of The Midnight King.
------
The scene opens to a large house in the middle of a green field. Parts Unknown again. This time a brighter picture. Nirvana is there in his best summer clothes. Standing next to him is a ten year old child in a mask, his youngest son Billy. Billy runs forward to meet Boris the bear, Nirvana's best friend and tag team partner. Next to Boris is the masked grand daughter of Nirvana.
The three begin to play in the field, chasing each other like children do.
Perhaps it was in bad taste to tack this on at the end but we should realize that despite his harsh words Nirvana is anything but a true villain. He loves his family and his wrestling bear. Most of all, he loves life.
He loves to wrestle.
