Character Biography: Jack Colter made a name for himself as a gambler in Vegas. Perhaps too big of a name, as he soon gained a reputation and was 86'd from several casinos in the city for card counting. It was then that Colter found a legitimate source of income in the wrestling business at the recommendation of his AA sponsor.
Colter found his first major success in the business when he was paired with Texan native "The Hangman" Frank Galloway. They toured the southern territories under the name of The Executioners (in equal parts due to their respective nicknames of "Colt" and "Gallows").
Tragedy struck several years later when the vehicle Jack was driving careened into a tree, resulting in the death of Frank Galloway and severe brain trauma for Colter. Jack was charged with a DUI, despite having been sober for years.
Colter has been searching for answers ever since, but due to his brain trauma and resulting amnesia, he remembers little from that time in his life. Haunted by this accident, for which he blamed himself, Jack experienced a psychotic break and attempted to take his own life. He was admitted into a psychiatric hospital where he began to have hallucinations of Frank Galloway speaking to him. Upon being released by the psychiatric hospital months down the road, Colter began to compete sporadically under the guise of "Gallows", an obvious reference to his former tag team partner, with a burlap sack over his head and a noose tied around his neck.
Career History: With designs on a career revival, Jack's manager Charlie Abernathy helped Jack escape from his troubled past in the south and the two headed north to Boston where Jack joined Brutal Force Wrestling. For a while, Jack managed to keep his nose clean and he earned a BFW title shot. He did his best to put his past behind him but it came back to kick him in the teeth in the form of a man named Sybyl, whom promised to lead Jack to the truth. Sybyl alluded to the blood-alcohol records from the night of the accident being tampered with. Sybyl put the evidence of this claim on the line in a ladder match at BFW's Steel City, but the power was cut during the match and somehow the documents were stolen. Charlie, Jack's manager, pinned this on Sybyl and tried to convince Jack that he was making a mockery of him. A second match was soon scheduled, with Jack earning the victory over Sybyl. Having found a bit of respect for each other over the course of the feud, Sybyl finally presented Jack with the information that he sought: Charlie was the man behind the power outage and had robbed him of the evidence he needed to prove his innocence.
Having finally closed this chapter on Sybyl, Jack was presented with a choice: to seek revenge on Charlie Abernathy or to finally get his career back on track and face Amis Shelton for the BFW Championship. He reluctantly chose the latter for job security and soon found himself to be a pawn in a greater war between the owner and GM of BFW. Believing the GM to be a total dunce and liability to the livelihood of the company, Jack put the GM's dog, Amis Shelton on notice by assaulting him after the main event of an episode of Brutality. Having drawn the ire of the boss, Amis's wife was scheduled in a match versus Jack and systematically demolished. The feud ended with Amis Shelton going over Jack for the title and the company going under (it's tough being right all the time).
Gimmick: Former gambler turned wrestler. The death of Jack's former tag team partner looms large over his life and his sobriety is very important to him.
Entrance Music: 'God's Gonna Cut You Down' by Johnny Cash
Entrance Description: The distinctive voice of Jack Colter says "Hit me!" A Jack of clubs playing card runs across the video on the JumboTron, as "God's Gonna Cut You Down" begins to play. Jack Colter emerges from behind the curtain to a chorus of boos. Jack smirks and walks down the ramp at a measured and methodical pace, unfazed by the crowd's reaction. Upon arriving at the steel steps, Colter slowly walks up them, wiping his boots at the top before stepping between the top and middle ropes. Once inside, he paces the ring a bit before removing his black T-shirt and tossing it outside the ring.
