Ring Name: Zachary SearsNicknames: “The Shotgun”
Hails From: New York City, New York
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 190 lbs.
Alignment: Neutral/Heel
Trained By: The Untouchable Academy of Wrestling
Character Biography: The son of Franz and Odelia Sears, Zachary and his younger sister Jessica spent their early childhood living in Queens, New York. Although there was a natural sibling rivalry between the two, it was the tragic event of 9/11 that caused him to become protective of his sister instead.
The Sears family moved to Toronto, Canada and lived there for several years, becoming friends with many of their neighbors, including the Pryce family. Due to Jessica’s history with bullies and peer pressure, Zachary decided to undergo boxing and MMA training in order to protect her. This nature would only grow stronger when their father passed away from an ischaemic heart disease on January 10th, 2014.
When Jessica first started training to become a wrestler, Zachary was completely against it. But as much as he protested, her mentor Jaime Alejandro convinced him to give her a chance. Soon he was inspired by her training sessions and growth, then he decided to give it a shot at Chicago’s Untouchable Academy of Wrestling (UAW). After a month’s worth of training, the majority of the students were given an opportunity in the academy’s first live show: a battle royal to contend for the UAW Undisputed World Championship. Not only would Zachary win the battle royal, but he would also become the first ever UAW Undisputed World Champion on the same night. Unfortunately, neither his reign nor the academy would last long.
While his modeling career is thriving, Zachary never skipped a training session and he contemplated a professional debut in the wrestling industry. The opening of Indianapolis Professional Wrestling (Indy Pro Wrestling, or IPW) on January 10th, 2016, two years after his father’s passing, was the opportunity he was looking for.
It proved to be more than an opportunity. It was an awakening of the demons that laid dormant within him. The golden boy was broken and transformed into a monster, a catalyst of “YOUR Favorite Drug” Xavier Laroux. Zachary eventually made the career transition to depart from IPW after Equinox and join the ranks of New Generation Wrestling (NGW). Alas, his time in the company did not last long with the unfortunate news of his mother’s diagnosis with ALS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He and his sister departed from their respective wrestling companies in order to live close and take care of their mother.
Three months later, the call of the ring has tempted Zachary to return. After cycling through multiple options, he made a final decision on one of the most eccentric wrestling companies in the States: Pure Amusement Wrestling. Zachary seems to have better control of his demons, but one must wonder how long that control will last once he’s stepped back into the squared circle. . .
Career History: OOC Note: Under the circumstances, I’ve never kept track of Zachary’s win/loss record because it was always insignificant to me. For me, character development and storytelling will always be Priority #1.
Zachary’s first start in wrestling was the Untouchable Academy of Wrestling (UAW, originally created by Mike!) located in Chicago. He participated in a battle royal and won, then he wrestled in a match to crown the first-ever UAW Undisputed World Champion. He was crowned the winner. His first professional debut took place in Indy Pro Wrestling (IPW) upon the grand opening in January. His most noted and worthy feud was against “YOUR Favorite Drug” Xavier Laroux. His time in NGW was too short to develop a feud with anyone on the roster. He’s been away from the ring for three month, but he never ends a day without vigorous training, specifically wrestling and swimming.
Gimmick: Zachary Sears is an enigmatic complication. Some days, he is sweet, kind and compassionate. Other days, he is dark, ruthless and volatile. Inside the ring, he becomes methodical and dangerous, calculating the weaknesses of his opponents and exposing them instantaneously. Medical records and tests have shown that he has no mental health conditions that cause these changes. If he is emotionally compromised, however, he becomes a vicious monstrosity of his methodical self.
Entrance Music: ‘My Demons’ {by Starset}
Entrance Description: The lights go out and a mysterious voice announces “Lock and load… The Shotgun cometh!” The audience is stirring in anticipation as “My Demons” by Starset begins to resonate from the PA system.
“Mayday! Mayday!
The ship is slowly sinking…”
Two spotlights shine on the stage and Zachary Sears emerges from beyond the curtains.
“They think I’m crazy, but they don’t know the feeling.”
He chuckles as he listens to the fans boo him with disapproval, then he charges straight for the ring.
“They’re all around me,
Circling like vultures…
They wanna break me and wash away my colors.
(Wash away my colors!)”
He jumps on the apron, leaps over the top rope, and looks around still with that smirk on his face. He throws a couple punches and raises his left fist in the air to the boos of the crowd.
“Take me high and I’ll sing!
Oh, you make everything okay (okay, okay…)
We are one in the same!
Oh, you take all of the pain away (away, away…)
Save me if I become…
My demons!”
He removes his black ring jacket and carelessly throws it aside, eager for the match to begin.

NGW | Singles Match vs. Avery Miles III
Versus in Seattle was a disaster. The opportunity to wrestle his sister was ripped away by the bitter captain of Team NGW Rising Stars. Even worse, that bitterness would attack him after he was eliminated. He should’ve seen it coming; his mutiny was loud and clear. For the captain to ruin everything after a misunderstanding, a misinterpretation of words… It was disgusting.
How ironic that they were scheduled to face one another on Vendetta. His opponent’s bitterness would bleed into Redemption in Chicago. The former captain, the two-faced spectator, smiled every time his sister was hurt. He’d attended the show just to watch her suffer at the hands of a lowly man hell-bent on revenge. His resentment was quenched when her blood was spilled by her own Captain America Shield, the shield their father presented to her out of love and hard work.
There was no remorse. His former captain showed his true colors Monday night. He was well aware of the vengeful monster that spawned after the tragic loss he suffered. It was understandable as to why he was angry and upset, but for him to wish ill will upon his sister? For him to enjoy his sister’s suffering? She was young and naive. She was still a kid. After profusely apologizing to him, she didn’t deserve this ugly hatred… He wanted justice for the both of them. He wanted this madness to end. All they wanted was peace… Would his former captain ever grant them that peace? Or would the vengeful monster inside him consume his human soul?
He would have justice for him and his sister. But until then. . .
Early Tuesday morning in the Windy City of Chicago, the door to Jessica Sears’s hospital room was opened by one of the nurses. The young woman was perched up on her hospital bed, playing a game on her Nintendo 3DS. She glanced over upon seeing the nurse enter her room and paused the game.
“Good morning Miss Sears.”
“Good morning ma’am.”
The nurse smiled softly and made her way over to Jessica’s bedside.
“Your right arm must be feeling better if you’re able to play.”
Jessica nodded a little, her eyes falling to her right arm. It was supported by a comfortable blue sling.
“Yeah… It still hurts a little. I can only play for short periods of time, but the medicine is helping.”
The nurse nodded in understanding and began to pull on a fresh, new pair of medical gloves. Carefully she removed the sling to get a better examination of Jessica’s right arm. She checked her muscles and nerves, in particular around her elbow, and to her pleasant surprise the young woman didn’t wince or react negatively. She fixed her sling back on in order to continue supporting her arm, then proceeded to check on the stitches, the set over her eye and the smaller set on the bridge of her nose. She opened a small kit and used a medicated wipe to clean the areas around the stitches.
“You seem to be doing a lot better. I believe the doctor will release you from the hospital today.”
“I’d like that. No offense, but I want to get out of Chicago as soon as possible…”
The nurse giggled softly and shook her head.
“None taken. I’m from Green Bay.”
The two of them shared a little laugh. There was a soft clearing of someone’s throat and the nurse realized something.
“Oh my! I apologize, there’s someone here to see you, Miss Sears. Do come in, sir!”
Jessica blinked. She wasn’t expecting any visitors, especially so early in the morning. Looking towards the doorway, her eyes lit up to see her older brother Zachary enter the room with white and yellow roses set in a smiley face vase. He placed them on the nightstand next to her bed.
“I came here as soon as I could. Sorry I’m a little late.”
Jessica shook her head a little and smiled.
“It’s okay, I wasn’t expecting anyone. But I’m glad you’re here. Thanks for coming, big brother.”
The nurse smiled at the siblings and politely bowed her head.
“I’ll go ahead and give you two some privacy.”
She dismissed herself and closed the door on the way out. Zachary moved to pull up a chair and take a seat next to his sister.
“How are you feeling?”
Jessica looked him in the eye. There was no lying to her brother. They knew each other too well to know when they were telling the truth.
“I’ve been better…”
“So I’ve seen. I read about your release from IPW, your tweets, and I was worried.”
“I would’ve kept tweeting, but Blair took my phone away.”
“Good. You didn’t need to say anything else.”
She sighed softly, turned off her handheld system, and set it aside. She folded her hands on her lap and lowered her head.
“...You were right from the start. I’m not meant to be a professional wrestler. It’s too hard, too painful...”
Zachary shook his head and pressed his lips together for a moment.
“Nein… I’ve seen vhat you can do. I’ve watched you transform and become a stronger person with every day. Jaime vas right to teach you how to wrestle. I vas wrong to not support you from the beginning.”
He looked into her eyes, noticing her slightly glance over at him. Her fingers grasp at the blanket over her lap and she frowned.
“I… I don’t want to wrestle anymore.”
His eyes softened, his Adam’s apple moving uneasily.
“Why…?”
She looked away from him, her eyes focusing on her hands. They lull halfway as she softly chewed on her lower lip.
“I’m not… I’m not good enough. I thought I finally found a company where I belonged, but it turns out I don’t belong at all. I have a horrible record and I’m nothing more than a transitional champion. I don’t have the passion… I don’t have the heart to survive in this business. I don’t know why Jaime, Ricky, and Hayden believed in me… I failed them… I failed the Nerd Nation… I failed my own friends and family… Most of all, I failed Papa...”
Her fingers tightened around the top of the blanket. Her hands were shaking and her body was shivering.
“...I just wanted to belong! I wanted to be good enough! I wanted to show the world that I was more than a professional gamer! I wanted to ascend… but all I did was fall apart. I couldn’t beat Persephone… I lost my title to Xavier… I fell as the Captain of IPW Rising Stars… and Jacob spilled my blood with my own weapon. I don’t belong in this industry… I’m not good enough to be in the ring… I’ll never be anything more than a stupid little nerd, so I might as well quit. It would make Jacob happy. It would definitely make Luke and Julianna happy. It would sure as hell make Avery happy…”
It was hard for him to hear all of this. His sister, someone so bubbly and lively, was an emotional wreck, a shadow of her former self. She was always so positive and cheery. Her love of the nerd culture knew no bounds. She was an inspiration for him… and now she was suffering. Moving up from the chair, Zachary carefully yet warmly wrapped his arms around her and held her close. He felt her bury her head against his chest and fight not to cry. His hand gently patted her back and he rested his chin atop of her head. Even in her weakness, there was still part of her vying to be strong.
Her will of the fighter was powerful… Perhaps even more so than his own. In the past, he was always envious of her success and the strength of her heart. No matter how high his academic marks were, no matter how popular he was, no matter his accomplishments, he was jealous of her. For the longest time he believed she was the only one who mattered to their father. She could get away with everything, but if he made a mistake, he was lectured and scolded. She was the envy of his life. He resented his father whom he believed favored her. But he was wrong to feel this way… His sister loved him almost unconditionally. She cheered him up whenever he felt down. She was always happy whenever they played video games or watched anime together. He thought he was the one who was always there… But it turned out that it was her who was always there for him.
That’s why he protected her. That’s why he cared for her. He’d fight her bullies and defend her a thousand times over if he had to. Just as long as she was okay… He wasn’t going to let her down again. He’d made the grave mistake of abandoning her when she needed him the most, when their father was battling against heart disease in that Toronto hospital… He wasn’t going to abandon her again. He continued to hold her close, comfort her, and soothe her. He closed his eyes once she finally allowed herself to cry in his arms.
“...I’m not letting you give up, Jessica. You do belong. You are more than good enough. You’re more than a professional gamer… You’re a professional wrestler. You have the passion, the heart, and the drive for this industry. Right now, you need a break from all of this… You’ve suffered enough. Do me a favor… Vhen you get out of here, I vant you to focus on being happy. Don’t vorry about work. Don’t vorry about love. Don’t vorry about what other people think of you… Just focus on you. Is like Miss Linette said… It gets better. It vill always get better… I can’t promise you anything, but I vill do everything I can to make it so. Please… be happy again.”
In the long run, that was all he truly wanted…
Suffice to say, I’ve been absent for a while. I’ve been quiet… and there are plenty of reasons why.
Sometimes, you have to step back and allow yourself to breathe. There are too many kinds of stressors in life, some of them good, but more of them bad. I’ve been a model for Trenton Modeling Industries ever since I was eighteen. In all those years, nothing has ever been more stressful than my time as a professional wrestler. This industry is a monstrosity of stress. Anyone who says otherwise is either delirious or a blatant liar. No matter who you are, wrestling takes it toll on the body and the mind. It weighs even heavier on the heart.
Every time we step into that ring, we put ourselves in danger. There is always the risk of breaking your arm, spraining your ankle, tearing your ACL, destroying your back, or losing your life… Sometimes the adrenaline takes over and we don’t realize how much pain we’re in until the bell rings again. But physical pain isn’t the only kind of pain we experience in that ring… Mental and emotional pain drive us beyond the extremities and will our bodies to continue fighting, even when we’re exhausted. Sometimes we suffer more in our hearts and in our minds than we do in our bodies.
I know Avery Miles has been suffering. He tries to put on a strong front, but deep down his tragic loss has wounded him. Any normal person would take the time away to recover. Of course, Avery isn’t normal… He chooses to go above and beyond for the sake of his passion. I understand his love for the sport. I, myself, am passionate about wrestling. But when it comes to life, when it comes to family, I would willingly step back and allow myself to heal. It wouldn’t make me weak or a coward. It would make me human.
That’s something that Avery hasn’t been. He’s been driven by a monster of vengeance inside of him, wounded by the loss he suffered. While he still has my condolences in that scenario, he does not have my kindness in this one. He took the only opportunity for the world to see sibling versus sibling, Sears versus Sears, and destroyed it with his own hands. His bitterness forced him to attack me after I was eliminated. His resentfulness fueled him to defeat and humiliate my sister. Everything should’ve ended after that night in Seattle… But Mr. Devlin Scott decided to further antagonize the situation by booking the two of us against each other. Even worse, he and Mr. Hayden Phoenix allowed him to attend Redemption in Chicago. What was his main purpose for being there, you might ask?
To take enjoyment in my sister’s suffering.
Whether Avery admits it or not, he bears ill will towards my sister. No matter how many times she apologized, he refused to forgive her. He wouldn’t let things go and move on with his own life. Instead, he smiled every time she was hurt by Jacob Daniels. He cheered for that asshole to destroy her and make her bleed. That horrifying smile on his face when she was laid out by her own shield… She was in horrible pain and all he could feel was pure bliss.
When will it stop, Avery? When will your hateful, vengeful monster be satiated? When Jessica is dead? She’s just a kid from Queens! She’s young and naive. She’s bound to make mistakes and react with emotions. She wears her heart on her sleeve, even when she’s numb. She’s not perfect, far from it… She poured her heart out and apologized to you. She couldn’t reach out to you on Twitter without everyone jumping on her and attacking her. You think you’re the only one who was in the right… You were right and wrong, just as much as she was. You had your friends defend you and attack her maliciously. It was only fair that we stepped up to defend her. It wasn’t victimizing either of you. It was trying to justify the wrongs and make things right. We did what was right to us, much like your friends did.
Yes, she should’ve responded to you in private, but she was afraid. She was afraid that you wouldn’t give her a chance to explain herself without you attacking her. She only turned twenty on April 2nd. She’s still considered a kid… Hell, when I turned twenty-one, I didn’t think of myself as a mature adult. I didn’t grow up until three months after my father passed away. I wanted to smoke and drink my life away, Avery, but Jessica stopped me. No matter how angry she was that I wasn’t there for her, she didn’t leave me to rot… She inspired me to make my life better. She pushed me to break my habits and eventually the tension between us disappeared. She forgave me…
That is heart. That is compassion. That is kindness and forgiveness. You’ve been lacking all of these elements in your humanity, Avery. You’ve allowed the monster inside of you to rule your life. Trust me when I say I know what it’s like to have a monster… That monster was one of the reasons why my relationship with Ashleigh Powell fell apart. That monster wanted to choke the life out of Xavier Laroux. That monster almost isolated me from my own family… I would’ve been alone if I had been victorious against Xavier. My victory would’ve been the worst case scenario… Thank Gott that didn’t happen. My suffering at Xavier’s hands, being in the hospital for four days and three nights… That’s what saved me from myself.
If your suffering at my hands is the only way to save you… Then so be it. I won’t cheat. I won’t resort to dirty tactics. I’ll simply beat the living hell out of you, just like Xavier did to me. If after our match on Vendetta you’re still spiteful towards me and my sister… Then the world will know that the monster of vengeance has devoured your very human soul.
Do the right thing, Avery… Forgive and forget. Move on with your life before it’s too late.
Z.S.
After posting the journal entry and sharing it with the world, Zachary sighs and puts his laptop to sleep. Suddenly his phone rings with the default ringtone of “Black Black Heart” by David Usher and he reaches over to pick it up. The number is a complete mystery to him, but the area code is from Toronto. He slides his finger to answer the call and he presses the speaker button.
“Hallo, this is Zachary Sears. Who is this?”
“Mr. Sears, this is Doctor Anthony Edwards of the Toronto General Hospital. I found your cell phone number listed on your mother’s emergency contacts… Your mother is in the hospital right now.”
“...vhat? W-why?”
“I’m… I’m afraid she’s showing the symptoms for ALS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease.”
