Finally the cameras for Bad Moon Rising had stopped rolling. The night had been a success overall. Sure enough the fans got everything they wanted out of it. There were quite a few people on the roster that had managed to achieve their dreams. Whether it was leaving with a hard fought victory or they were leaving with their gear bag being fifteen pounds heavier due to a championship. Then there were those on the roster that didn’t have such a good night. One of those people just happened to Calvin Harris. At that moment he was making his way through the backstage area.
The man was completely covered in sweat. It literally poured off his body with every step that he made. He also appeared to be walking with a little bit of a limp which was a good indication that his body was in pain. Considering everything that had gone out there. People would have understood if he was in pain. Now the expression on his face was the thing that should have concerned most. He didn’t look very happy. If anything he looked downright pissed off. The night hadn’t gone his way and it was understandable to be upset. Yet this was more than being upset. It was pissed off. It was angry. It was furious.
In approaching the locker room door, Calvin’s hand had no sooner pressed against it. Almost about to head inside before a familiar voice to the left of him could be heard. Turning in that direction revealed to him the brand spanking new Titan of the Midway Champion, Nova Wonder. His eyes kind of narrowed in her direction.
NOVA WONDER: You don’t smell too much like burnt flesh. I suppose that’s a good thing right?
Her tongue in cheek remarks were something she was good at. Generally they were remarks that got a response out of him. Not this time though Calvin glared for a second and turned his head. He was about to head inside the locker room again but Nova’s hand quickly reached out and grabbed his arm. It was a gentle gesture which forced his eyes back in her direction.
NOVA WONDER: I can see it in your eyes. You’re in a bad mood. You didn’t leave with the championship tonight, but you did well. You proved you could hang with that big gorilla. You proved everyone wrong about you. There’s going to be a next time and when that happens. You’ll be leaving with that championship.
His eyes had remained on hers. Every word that Nova let escape her thin lips was a word of encouragement. She was doing her best as his partner in life to make him feel better about how everything had gone tonight. Yet as much as she was trying to be helpful. Calvin was spinning it in his head to be negative. He took her comments as backhanded. He took her comments as if she thought it wasn't a big deal to lose. He took her comments as if she herself didn't believe he could hang in the first place. It was taking everything within his human being not to snap on her. Calvin slightly began to shake his head from side to side.
CALVIN HARRIS: There isn't going to be a next time.
NOVA WONDER: Oh don't be such a drama queen Calvin. Of course there's going to be a next time. This company would be foolish to not put you in a position in which you get another shot at that championship. After all you've done and after all you've proven. There will be a next time.
CALVIN HARRIS: No there won't be, because I'm done...
His words seemed to echo out throughout the arena halls. A set of serious looking eyes had come from him while he kept his eyes on Nova's gaze. He could see her trying to process everything. Saw her trying to understand what he had just said to her. Trying to process what he exactly meant. Trying to process exactly what he meant by the situation at hand. Nova nose scrunched up a bit in confusion.
NOVA WONDER: Wait, what do you mean you're done? Like are you done competing against Press? You're done competing for the title? You're done competing in PAW? You're done wrestling? I don't understand. You can't be that vague.
By now Calvin had started to angrily rip off the wrist tape that covered both of his wrists. He wasn't paying too much attention to Nova, although he heard every word that had come out of her mouth. Based on her tone of voice though, she wanted answers. Calvin's focus came off the wrist tape for a brief second. Long enough for him to look her right in the eyes.
CALVIN HARRIS: Like I said... I'm done!
Before she had a chance to process his response. More importantly before she even had a chance to ask anymore questions. Calvin pressed his hand against the locker room door and pushed it open heading inside. Nova went to step in behind him but before she could. The door slammed shut practically in her face which made a statement all on it's own. For a second or two she found herself just standing there glaring at the door questioning whether or not the right move was to follow in after him. On the inside Calvin had sat himself down in a chair. His eyes glaring at the floor. His mind seemed made up for the time being. So the question was had PAW seen the last of the Martyr?
